He played in the NBA Leagues until 2012 when he took advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in Europe and Asia.
Shelden signed a one-year contract with Élan Chalon, the French League champions, on August 28, 2012, in Chalon-sur-Saône, France. Shelden averaged 11.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game during the 2012–13 Euro-league season. He was dealt with the Minnesota Timberwolves on February 19, 2009, along with Bobby Brown, for Rashad McCants and Calvin Booth.
