Loann’s family fled Vietnam as refugees, and she grew up in Houston hoping to become a teacher, which she eventually did. Shion left Texas to pursue a master’s degree in engineering at Cornell University but returned soon after Ryan’s birth to finish the degree online.

Truth in Advertising and the Federal Trade Commission filed a complaint on August 28, 2019, alleging that its sponsored videos were not properly disclosed. These advertisements frequently feature images of unhealthy foods.
The FTC sued YouTube and Google for $170 million in response to the latter complaint, which resulted in YouTube adopting new rules on children’s content to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.

However, the family replaced their real-life surname with the on-screen surname Kaji before going live on YouTube. Ryan ToysReview and PocketWatch collaborated in 2019 to create Ryan’s Mystery Playdate, a 20-episode preschool television series.
Moreover, Outright Games released Race with Ryan, a racing game starring Kaji and characters from the Ryan’s World brand, on November 1, 2019, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows.
The channel announced that Super Spy Ryan, a hybrid live-action and animated series, will premiere on Amazon Kids+ on November 27, 2020. Later, Ryan’s World announced the release of an official game on the gaming platform Roblox on December 4, 2020.
On March 4, 2022, Outright Games released Ryan’s Rescue Squad, an action-adventure game for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, and Stadia.
Kaji announced a line of toys called Ryan’s World at the 2018 Toy Fair in New York City, in collaboration with PocketWatch and Bonkers Toys. On August 6, 2018, the toys were exclusively available at Walmart.
