Prichard Melendez is an American boxer and honorary WBC World Champion. Prichard Melendez is a gold medal winner at the 2010 Panamerican Youth Championship in the 64 kg category.
Early Life
Prichard Colon Melendez was born on September 19, 1992. He is 31 years old presently and his sun sign is Virgo. He was born in Maitland, Florida, USA.
His parents are Nieves, a retired waitress, and Richard Colón, a pensioned-off serviceman. When he was 10, his family decided to move to Puerto Rico, so Prichard could represent the island in competitions. His full name is Prichard Colon Melendez.
They settled in the rural town of Orocovis, Puerto Rico. He started his career at the Albergue Olímpico in Salinas, Puerto Rico. After graduating high school, he started studying Business Administration at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Professional Life and Career
During his amateur career, Prichard Melendez gained fame for winning 5 national championships in both the 141 and 152-pound divisions. Also, he won the gold medal at the 2010 Pan American Youth Championship in the 64 kg category.
Prichard decided to become a professional fighter in the year 2012.
And, he made his professional debut on February 23, 2013. Therefore, his first Fight was against Xavier La Salle at the Cosme Beitía Salamo Coliseum in Cataño, Puerto Rico. He knocked out LaSalle in the first round.
Likewise, he distinguished himself for his restless schedule. Moreover, he fought 5 times in the year 2013 and 7 times in the year 2014.
Further, his most notable fight came on September 9, 2015, when he fought against Vivian Harris, a more experienced fighter. was slated to fight Terrel Williams in an undercard fight at the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia, on October 17, 2015.

Brain injury
He and Terrell Williams fought for 9 rounds, in the first 5 rounds of which he appeared to be ahead. Throughout the match, Williams repeatedly punched him in the back of the head illegally.
He also informed the referee of the illegal punches to the back of his head, to which the referee replied “You take care of it.” However, Colón hit Williams with a low blow, for which this boxer was penalized 2 points.
After multiple illegal blows, he was knocked down for the first time in his professional career during the ninth round. He spoke to the ringside doctor, Richard Ashby between the rounds and stated he felt dizzy but felt he could go on.
The doctor cleared Colón and allowed the fight to continue. He was disqualified after the 9th round when his corner mistakenly removed his gloves thinking it was the end of the fight.
Moreover, his corner claimed he was incoherent and experiencing dizziness. And, after the fight, he was vomiting and was taken to the hospital. There, he was diagnosed with brain bleeding.
And, as a result, he went into a coma for 221 days. In the year 2017, the parents of Colón filed a lawsuit seeking damages of more than $50 million. Moreover, the lawsuit has not yet been settled, though his mother believes it may never be settled.
Similarly, in July 2018, his mother posted a video of him on her Facebook account in which he can be seen taking physical therapy and responding to verbal commands.
His mother also stated that Colón was learning how to communicate through a computer. However, she continues to upload videos of his progress on YouTube.
