Early Life

MGK was born on April 22, 1990, and he is currently 30 years old. His full name is Colson Baker but is popular as Machine Gun Kelly (MGK). Further, MGK hails from Houston, Texas, but is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. Talking about his family, MGK lost his father fairly recently in early July 2020. MGK had missionary parents.

MGK then stopped attending school after his father’s departure. He then started making a name for himself by calling out elder classmates. Then in the year 2005, MGK’s father returned to take them both to Kuwait. This was before they were forced back stateside to Cleveland. There, MGK attended Shaker Heights High School.

The Beginning

Moreover, MGK traveled to Harlem’s Apollo Theater in March of 2009. This was when he was on the verge of getting evicted. At the Apollo Theater, MGK became the first-ever rapper to win in the Apollo Theater with his consecutive victories.

Additionally, MGK recorded music in his home studio. He refers to his studio as the “Rage Cage”. Eventually, MGK gained exposure when MTV2’s Sucker Free Freestyle featured him. In the program, MGK freestyled numerous verses from his Chip off the Block single.

Then in February of 2010, MGK released his second mixtape 100 Words and Running. MGK still worked at Chipotle to afford rent. At the same time, his father kicked him out after his high school graduation.

Rise to Stardom

Professionally, MGK, a.k.a. Machine Gun Kelly, is a famous singer-songwriter, rapper, and actor. The prominent rapper released a total of 4 studio albums throughout his career. He released his first studio album Lace Up in the year 2012. The rapper then made his film debut in the year 2014. It was a romantic drama named Beyond the Lights. As an actor, MGK also appeared in several films. He also had a recurring role on Roadies. He appeared on the Showtime series in the year 2016.

Furthermore, MGK embarked on a musical career as a teenager. He released his mixtape for the first time in the year 2006. The rapper then released four more mixtapes. In the year 2011, MGK secured a recording contract with Bad Boy and Interscope Records. Lace-Up is MGK’s major-label debut album and he released the album in October 2012. This album included the singles Wild Boy, Invincible, Stereo, and Hold On (Shut Up). Moreover, this album debuted at #4 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

2015 Onwards

In early 2015, MGK released the singles Till I Die and A Little More. These singles were for MGK’s second studio album named General Admission. The rapper released his second studio album in October 2015. Further, this album debuted at #4 in the United States.

Furthermore, this second studio album incorporated darker tones and storytelling. This album also had elements of rap-rock and R&B. MGK’s third studio album is Bloom and he released it on May 12, 2017. He followed it with Bad Things. For this, MGK collaborated with the singer Camila Cabello. It then peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also became his highest-charting single.

Moreover, MGK’s fourth studio album is Hotel Diablo and he released it on July 5, 2019. This album also includes three singles namely Hollywood Whore, El Diablo, and I Think I’m Okay. The latter single features rappers Travis Barker and Yungblud. Moving on, MGK’s fifth studio album is Tickets to My Downfall. The rapper released it on 25 September 2020. This also marked MGK’s departure from rap in favor of pop-punk.

Personal Life

Rapper MGK  is open about his cannabis use. He has also claimed in many interviews that he smokes daily. MGK further describes it as a “source of happiness and a way people can feel a little more love in their own right”. For a period prior to the release of Lace-Up, the young rapper was addicted to heroin for some time. Prior to 2020, MGK was also a heavy cocaine and alcohol user. Then in November 2020, the rapper revealed that he is actually seeking treatment after his addiction to Adderall.

Relationship Status

MGK is a father and has a daughter named Casie Colson Baker. Little Baker was born in July 2009 and she is 11 years old while writing this article. MGK welcomed his daughter with Emma Cannon. The two reportedly met each other as teenagers. There are rumors that they were married for some time, but this is just a rumor as no source has come forward to confirm this.

Following his separation from Emma, MGK has dated several women including Amber Rose, Chantel Jeffries, Noah Cyrus, and Sommer Ray. At present, MGK is romantically involved with actress Megan Fox since May 2020.
