Early Life and Education

Marianela Núñez was born on March 23, 1982, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her age is currently 41 years old. However, there is no information about her parents. She has three siblings brothers but their details are not disclosed.

When she was three, her mother enrolled her in dance classes. She initially attended dancing classes at her instructor’s garage. Núñez decided to specialize in ballet at the age of five.

At age six, she enrolled in the Teatro Colón Ballet School. She holds both Argentine and British nationality and is of a white ethnic background. According to her date of birth, she was born under the zodiac sign Aries.

Career and Professional Life

Marianela is a popular ballet dancer by profession. Maximiliano Guerra, the main dancer in Colon Theater Ballet, chose Núñez to dance with him at the age of 14, midway through her training, and the company picked Núñez to join.

She performed numerous roles with the company’s lead dancer both on tour and with the company in Buenos Aires. Although she didn’t speak English, she gave an audition for The Royal Ballet in 1997 when the company was in Los Angeles on tour.

She received a contract the next year if she joined The Royal Ballet School instead. In 2000, she received a promotion to First Soloist, the second-highest position in the organization. Núñez took over as Kitri in Don Quixote in 2001 from the injured Leanne Benjamin, who was replaced by Carlos Acosta as Basilio.

The next year, she was promoted to principal dancer. Her choreographic credits include Frederick Ashton, John Cranko, Kenneth MacMillan, Wayne McGregor, and Christopher Wheeldon.

She has performed in both classical and modern works in prominent parts. For her performances in Metamorphosis: Titian 2012’s Viscera, Aeternum, and “Diana and Actaeon,” she was honored with the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance in 2013.

Núñez celebrated her 20th anniversary at The Royal Ballet in 2018 after a performance of Giselle. Her “one of the greats of her generation” label was awarded by artistic director Kevin O’Hare. In attendance were Lady Sarah Chatto, Peter Wright, Monica Mason, and Renato Carlos Sersale di Cerisano, the Argentine ambassador to the UK.

Núñez has performed on stage outside of the Royal Ballet all around the world, including in Austria, the United States, Italy, Argentina, and Australia. Núñez’s portrayal of Odette/Odile in Swan Lake was particularly commended by The Times, which noted that she “has a clear line, a melting fluidity, and a silky legato quality. Her Odette was poetic and melancholy, and her Odile was tough and seductive. The Independent said of Núñez’s performance as Nikiya in La Bayadère that she “has luscious musical phrasing and floating line.”

Her sexual orientation is straight. As for her marital status, she is a divorced woman. Núñez married Thiago Soares, a fellow star dancer with the Royal Ballet in Buenos Aires in 2011. Despite still being friends and dancing together, the couple divorced in January 2016 after separating in 2014.
