Initially, talking about her acting career, Lynda Baron did several minor television roles. in the 1970 long-running police procedural “Dixon of Dock Green” she appeared as various characters in multiple episodes.

That same year, she played a character named Sheila in this popular police “Z Cars.” From 1989 to 2000, she had a recurring role in the iconic British soap opera “EastEnders” playing the role of Linda Clarke, the mother of the character Sharon Watts.

Later, she made guest-starred in the 1991 medical drama “Casualty” playing Mrs. Andrews. She also lent her voice to the popular children’s show “The Bill” (1996-2009).

Baron played a character named Jean Butterworth in the daytime soap opera “Doctors” (2001-2019). Similarly, she guest-starred as Mrs. Pugh in the 2013 period drama “Call the Midwife.”

She appeared in the episode ‘The Harrowing’ as Mrs. Drake in 2014 “Inside No. 9.” In 2018, she played Mrs. Rossi in the revival of the classic sitcom “Still Open All Hours.”

She made her small role in Stanley Kubrick’s 1971 controversial film “A Clockwork Orange” playing the role of Catlady. Later, she played Gloria in the 1976 British sex comedy “Confessions of a Driving Instructor.”

In the 1980 comedy film “The Wildcats of St. Trinian’s” she appeared as Miss Drownder. She played a minor role in the 1983 musical drama film “Yenti” starring Barbra Streisand.

Later, she starred in films such as  “Carry On Columbus” (1992), “Colour Me Kubrick” (2005), and “Scoop” (2006) directed by Woody Allen. In 2020, she played the role of Elsie in the comedy-drama film “Dream Horse.”

Singing Career

She began her music career as a club singer, performing in various venues around the UK. In addition, she worked as a session singer, providing backing vocals for popular artists like Petula Clark and Shirley Bassey. In 1981, Baron had a hit single in the UK with her cover of the song “The Telephone Call.” The song reached number 10 in the UK charts and helped to establish Baron as a solo artist.

She released several albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including “Lynda Baron Sings!” (1971), “Lynda Baron Again!” (1972), and “Turn Back the Clock” (1985).

In the 1990s and 2000s, she turned her focus to children’s music, releasing several albums aimed at young audiences. She also provided the voices for several characters in the animated series “The Raggy Dolls” and “Henry’s Cat.”
