Lil Baby is an American Rapper who found acclaim when he released his mixtape Perfect Timing in April 2017. Lil Baby’s mixtape features the likes of Young Thug, Lil Yachty, and Young Scooter. Childhood days

Talking about childhood, he did many criminal activities. Many of his neighbors were making a living out of petty crimes. So, he also did not have much of an option but tread the path laid by his neighbors. Likewise, he was never into academics and, his lack of interest in studies made his parents worry about his future. And, in the late 90s, the musical genre ‘Gangsta rap’ was at its peak and it influenced almost every other kid. Similarly, he was also attracted to the musical genre, which eventually pulled him towards rap.

Moreover, he spent most of his early days just hanging around with his friends and selling illegal drugs on the street. He even often got involved in brawls. And, when some of his childhood friends went on to make successful careers in music, he felt left out but refused to change his ways. Likewise, he always had a passion for music, but leading the life of a criminal seemed better and easier than any other profession. He even went to jail for five years for selling drugs.

Furthermore, while in prison, he showed signs of improvement, due to which he came out in just two years. And, upon his release, he decided to lead a better life, and his childhood friend Coach K came forward to help him.

Regarding his educational background and qualification, he attended Booker T. Washington High School. However, he did not go to college. Actually, he ended his education early when he dropped out of school in tenth grade.

Career and Professional Life

Shortly after his release from prison, Lil Baby released his mixtape Perfect Timing, with features from Young Thug, Lil Yachty, and others. He also released his second mixtape entitled Harder Than Hard in July 2017. Likewise, in October 2017, he released a collaboration mixtape with a close friend and fellow Atlanta rapper Marlo, 2 The Hard Way as well. However, this mixtape did not create as big an impact as the two former tapes, but still garnered some attention.

He finally began to break through to the masses with his December 2017 mixtape Too Hard, led by his hit single “Freestyle”, which released as a music video on November 5 to promote the upcoming mixtape. And, through the success of the single, he attracted a lot of attention towards his mixtape. Likewise, when the mixtape finally released, it featured the single “All of a Sudden” featuring rapper and friend Moneybagg Yo. And, this mixtape was defining for much of Jones’s current career.

He released his debut studio album, Harder Than Ever, which debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart in May 2018. However, the album was supported by the singles, “Southside” and “Yes Indeed” along with Drake, the latter peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100. “Life Goes On” featuring Lil Uzi Vert and Gunna charted at 74 on the Billboard Hot 100.

After he released Harder Than Ever, he also released his collaborative mixtape Drip Harder with labelmate and close friend, Gunna in October 2018. Likewise, the lead single, “Drip Too Hard” went on to become certified RIAA Platinum and MC Platinum, peaking at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and being nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. And, the mixtape was released under the labels Quality Control, YSL Records, and Motown/Capitol.

Moreover, in September 2018, he appeared on the Adult Swim television series FishCenter Live. In late 2018, he released his mixtape Street Gossip as well, and in December 2018, he collaborated with Yung Gravy on the latter’s single, “Alley Oop”. Furthermore, he also starred in How High 2, the sequel to the 2001 stoner film How High. Likewise, in June 2019, he and rapper Future released a single titled “Out the Mud” and in July 2019, he appeared alongside DaBaby on the single “Baby”, released on Quality Control’s second studio album, Control the Streets, Volume 2.

He released his single “Woah” as the lead single for his second studio album My Turn on November 8, 2019. Likewise, Baby who was featured in YouTuber KSI’s song Down Like That along with fellow rapper Rick Ross and British producer S-X performed it for KSI’s ring walk at Staples Center for his fight against YouTuber Logan Paul on November 9, 2019. Then in the same month and the same year he released a song from the film Queen & Slim, titled “Catch the Sun”, which subsequently appeared on My Turn as well.

The Year 2020

He released the second single, “Sum 2 Prove”, for his album on January 10, 2020, and it reached number 16 on the Hot 100. Likewise, the album, My Turn, was released on February 28, 2020, and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. And, it features guest appearances from Gunna, 42 Dugg, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, Moneybagg Yo, Young Thug, and Rylo Rodriguez. Moreover, My Turn produced 12 songs that appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, giving him a career total of 47 songs on the chart, putting him in a tie with Prince and Paul McCartney.

Likewise, following the release of the album’s deluxe version on May 1, My Turn returned to the top spot on the Billboard 200. Then, on June 12, 2020, Baby released the political song “The Bigger Picture”, amid the George Floyd protests. This song also debuted at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his highest-charting song. Shooting in Birmingham

Furthermore, during his concert in Birmingham, Alabama, on March 8, 2020, gunfire popped off the side of the stage. This had him and much of the audience running for safety. Likewise, a Twitter video surfaced that showed the incident, where two men entered the stage and appeared to be looking for a way out. And, almost immediately after their entering, gunshots were heard.

Moreover, reportedly, one was taken to the hospital after the shooting. And, according to a police officer, the victim’s injuries were life-threatening and no suspect was arrested.

In the year 2020, Lil Baby was for ‘New Artist of the Year’ and ‘Hip-Hop Artist of the Year’ for Himself, ‘Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album’ and ‘Hip-Hop Album of the Year’ for “My Turn”. Likewise, he was also nominated for ‘Best Hip Hop Video’ for “The Bigger Picture”, ‘Best Rap/Sung Performance’ for “Drip Too Hard” (with Gunna), ‘Best Video with a Social Message’ for “The Bigger Picture”, and ‘Song of Summer’ for “We Paid” (Feat 42 Dugg).
