Jeremy Clarkson is a British journalist, presenter, columnist, and writer. Jeremy Clarkson is popular for hosting the motoring program, “Top Gear” along with Richard Hammond and James May.

Early Life

Jeremy Clarkson came to the world on the 11th of April 1960, in Doncaster, England. He holds British nationality and he is 62 years old as of 2022.

His full name is Jeremy Charles Robert Clarkson and belongs to the British-White ethnicity. In addition, he has his belief in Christianity religion and the zodiac sign of Aries.

Following his parents, he is the son of Eddie Clarkson (father) and Shirley Clarkson (mother). Professionally, his father was a peddler while his mother was an author.  He grew up with his sister whose name is Joanna Higton.


Following his academic qualification, he attended Hill House School in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. Later, Clarkson went to Repton School in Repton, Derby, Derbyshire, England.

He stated that he was deeply unhappy at Repton School, saying that he had been a “suicidal wreck” there, having experienced extreme bullying. Due to drinking, smoking, and generally making a nuisance of himself, he was expelled from Repton School. In 2005, he earned an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Oxford Brookes.

Professional Career

Initially, Jeremy Clarkson started his career as a traveling salesman for his parents’ business, selling Paddington Bear toys after which he trained as a journalist with the “Rotherham Advertiser.”

Moreover, he thanks the “Shropshire Star” as his first outlet as a motoring columnist when writing 2015 in his final column for “Top Gear” magazine. Back in 1984, he established the Motoring Press Agency (MPA) and wrote for “Amstrad Computer User” and compiled Amstrad CPC game reviews in 1987.

In addition, he has written regular columns in the tabloid newspaper “The Sun”, and for the broadsheet newspaper “The Sunday Times.” As a television presenter, he started working on the British motoring program “Top Gear”, from 27th October 1988 to 3rd March 1999.

In March 2015, following a “fracas” with one of the Top Gear shows producers, Oisin Tymon, he was also suspended by the BBC Top Gear show. Between November 1998 and December 2000, he hosted the first series UK version of “Robot Wars”  and his talk show, “Clarkson”, comprised 27 half-hour episodes aired in the United Kingdom.

He was invited to investigate his family history for an episode of the first series of the BBC’s “Who Do You Think You Are?” which was aired in November 2004.

In 1997, he appeared in the light-hearted comedy show “Room 101.” Later, he made several appearances on the prime-time talk shows “Parkinson” and “Friday Night with Jonathan Ross” in 2002.

This television presenter and his co-presenter James May were the first people to reach the North Magnetic Pole in a car also in 2007, chronicled in “Top Gear: Polar Special.”

Recent Works

On the 30th of July 2015, it was announced that Clarkson, along with former “Top Gear” hosts Richard Hammond and James May would present a new show on Amazon Prime Video as the first season was made available worldwide in 2016.

Later on the 11th of May 2016, Clarkson confirmed on his Twitter feed that the series would be titled “The Grand Tour”, and air from a different location each week. On the 9th of March 2018, it was announced that he would host a revamped series of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” on ITV.

In 2003, he presented “The Victoria Cross: For Valour” and wrote as well as presented “Jeremy Clarkson: Greatest Raid of All Time” in 2007 which is a documentary about World War II Operation Chariot.

In addition, he has worked as a presenter in the series named “The Grand Tour” (2016), “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” (2018), “It’s Clarkson On TV” (2020), “Clarkson’s Farm” (2021).

Currently, Jeremy Clarkson is in a relationship with Irish-born former actress and screenplay writer Lisa Hogan. Since 2017, the couple has been in a relationship. But, in past, he married twice in his life.

Firstly, he married Alexandra James back in 1989 but they soon turned divorced in the year 1990. Later, he married Frances Cain in 1993. With marriage, the couple has three children; Finlo, Emily, and Katya Clarkson. Meanwhile, Clarkson has also been in relationships with Phillipa Sage and Elaine Bedell.

This television presenter attracted over 500 complaints to the BBC when he joked about lorry drivers murdering prostitutes in November 2008. Later, the BBC stated the comment was a comic rebuttal of a common misconception about lorry drivers and was within the viewer’s expectation of Clarkson’s Top Gear persona.
During a warm-up, while recording a Top Gear show in July 2009, he called then-British Prime Minister Gordon Brown “a silly cunt.” In July 2010, he reportedly angered gay rights campaigners after he made a remark on Top Gear that did not get aired on the 4th July episode.
In October 2014, he also attracted controversy when filming the “Top Gear: Patagonia Special” after driving a Porsche 928 in Argentina with the license plate H982 FKL, allegedly referring to the 1982 Falklands War.
