He was interested in sumo and wrestling from a very young age and started when he was in primary school. However, he decided to become a professional sumo wrestler when he was scouted by yokozuna Asahifuji.
After joining Isegahama Stabel of yokozuna he adopted the name Homrefuji and made his professional debut in the year 2008. He was making a speedy rise in his career which slowed upon reaching the makushita division in September 2008.
There he struggled and fight for three years in the middle ranks. Later, he was promoted to second juryo division in 2012. After having some fluctuation during this time he later successfully climbed to the top makuuchi division for the first time in May 2013.
This made him the first one to reach the division from Aomori prefecture.

Homarefuji announced retirement in 2019 and is staying in sumo as a toshiyori or elder of the Japan Sumo Association. And, he has also been coaching in Isegahama stable. The retired player was not endorsed by any brands, and he does not promote any brands too.
