Early Life and Education

Gary Oldman was born on March 21, 1958, in London, England. He is 65 years old and is under the astrological sign, Aries. He holds British-American nationality and his full name is Gary Leonard Oldman.

His father’s name is Leonard Bertram Oldman and his mother’s name is Kathleen. And, his father was a sailor who also worked as a welder, and also his father was an alcoholic who left the family when Gary was just seven years old.

Likewise, he has one older sister and her name is Laila Morse who is an actress. Also, she was able to perform in Oldman’s directorial debut Nil by Mouth in the year 1997, before taking on her most famous role of Mo Harris in the BBC soap opera EastEnders.

Gary Oldman was the first in his year to receive professional work after leaving drama school. In the year 1979, he was able to star in Thark, opposite Annette Kerr, at York’s Theatre Royal and subsequent plays included Cabaret, Privates on Parade, and Romeo and Juliet.

He then went on to feature in Dick Whittington and His Cat, Colchester, Glasgow, The Massacre at Paris, Chinchilla, and A Waste of Time. And, in the year 1982, he was able to make his film debut in Colin Gregg’s Remembrance.

Then, the following year, he featured in Meantime, Entertaining Mr. Sloane, and Saved. Likewise, his film, Saved was a breakthrough for Gary.

With the help of this popularity, he went on to receive a role in Bond’s The Pope’s Wedding. And, for this role, he was able to win two of British theatre’s top honors: the Time Out Fringe Award for Best Newcomer, and the Drama Theatre Award for Best Actor.

He also appeared in Rat in the Skull, The Desert Air, Cain and Abel, The Danton Affair, Women Beware, Women, Real Dreams, and all three of Bond’s The War Plays: Red Black and Ignorant, The Tin Can People and Great Peace.

Gary received the role in the 1986 film Sid and Nancy but he twice turned down the role before accepting it. He starred in Prick Up Your Ears, for which he was able to receive a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor.
