Gabe’s MLB ambition came realized when he was picked by the Detroit Tigers in the 1995 MLB Draft. In addition, he was given a $10,000 signing bonus. During his four seasons in the Minor Leagues, the MILB player participated in Double-A Southern League All-Star Games and was chosen to the All-Star squad. USA Today, Baseball Weekly, and The Sporting News all named him Minor League Player of the Year. On September 20, 1998, he made his Major League Baseball debut with the Tigers. In two seasons with the club, he hit a career-high eighteen home runs.

Gabe has also played for the Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, and Boston Red Sox, among other teams. His most famous accomplishment was guiding the Red Sox to the 2004 World Series victory. In 2005, Kapler was a member of the Yomiuri Giants, a Japanese team. However, he was unable to record many victories and was forced to return to MLB.

Despite announcing his retirement on December 12, 2006, the MLB star returned for the 2008 season. In addition, he has played for the Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays. However, Kapler was forced to retire once more due to injuries to his right hip flexor and right ankle. On August 14, 2010, he played his final game with the Rays.
