Career and Professional Life

Dion Waiters was selected fourth overall in the 2012 NBA draft despite choosing not to work out for any teams before the draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He then was selected to play in the Rising Stars Challenge game during the 2013 NBA All-Star Weekend.

And, finally, after his rookie season, he rose to the fourth-best overall rookie by NBA and placed fifth in NBA Rookie of the Year voting with 21 points. Also, in the year 2014, he was able to participate in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge.

Likewise, that same year, he recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 11 assists in a loss to the Miami Heat. In January 2015, Dion was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder from the Cavaliers in a three-team trade.

Waiters went on to re-sign with the Heat on July 7, 2017. Then, on December 28, 2018, he went to Miami’s NBA G League affiliate team, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, for a rehabilitation assignment. Then, again on January 2, 2019, he made his return for the Heat.

However, on October 19, 2019, he was suspended for Miami’s 2019–20 season debut game for “conduct detrimental to the team”.

Also, he had to miss a game due to a panic attack he experienced while flying to the game. Again, two days later, the Heat suspended him for 10 games, including the previous game he missed, for the consumed edible.

Furthermore, on February 6, 2020, Dion was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team trade also involving the Minnesota Timberwolves, and three days later, he was waived by the Grizzlies.

In March of the year 2020, he was able to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers and made his debut on July 30, 2020.
