Career and Professional Life

Being a defensive midfielder he is a well-recognized player. Dick started his career joining ADO Den Haag in 1966. For the club, his first appearance came in 1967, at the age and he made his professional debut with the club on 21 May 1967 of 21. Moreover, He made his professional debut with the club on 21 May 1967 for the team against GVAV. He scored 7 goals in 147 appearances. He is also one of the members of the team that won the 2008 UEFA CUP.

Advocaat continued his career for Roda JC in 1973 until he moved to VVV-Venlo. With Roda, JC  Advocaat made 121 total appearances and scored 2 goals. Before signing a four-year deal with Roda JC he was sent on loan to San Franciso Gales in 1967. During that time he scored 1 goal in 7 matches before ending his loan deal.

After his loan year, Advocaat moved to the United States and signed a contract with Chicago Sting for the North American Soccer League (NASL), after making 32 appearances and 3 goals for the team he left the club. however, he returned to the Netherlands and started to play for his former club Den Hang. Further, he left the team after scoring 1 goal in 31 appearances for the team. Furthermore, Advocaat joined Sparta Rotterdam for the 1980-81 season. Advocaat was a physical education teacher and became involved in coaching in 1981 which was offered by his brother, Jaap. After four years with the team, he moved to HFC Haarlem in 1987, where he led for about two years. Advocaat then transferred to Schiedamse Voetbal Vereniging in 1989 as a manager, under his supervision the team won the Eerste Divisie champions (1989-90) season and Eredivisie (1990-1991).

Advocaat joined Dordrecht in 1991 and led the team for a year. He again transferred to PSV in December 1994 and the team’s first match came against Ajax on January 1, 1995, when he became the manager. Advocaat coached the two players Luc Nilis and Ronaldo. While he was a manager, the team was honored with the Eredivisie title as well as qualified for the UEFA Champions League in the following year.

Further, Advocaat has managed numerous clubs including Rangers where the club won the SPL League Cup and Scottish Cup. He also led Borussia Monchengladbach and Zenit Saint Petersburg with the team; he won the UEFA Cup final. Along with this, he managed the club AZ, Sunderland A.F.C, Fenerbache, and so on.
