Talking about his ownership of sports teams, he bought a minority stake in the year 2009. It was in the ownership of the Major League Soccer franchise “Real Salt Lake”. This was also his 2nd time watching live soccer.

His stake was originally 49% of the club. However, it increased to 62% in late 2012. Dave Checketts sold his majority stake to Dell in 2013. This gave him full control of the franchise “Real Salt Lake”, Rio Tinto Stadium, as well as the sports radio station “KALL”.
