After leaving San Diego, he worked as an assistant coach for many clubs like Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, and Miami Heat. He spent one season at the Warriors, and four seasons at Atlanta Hawks (2004 to 2008). Similarly, he spent 8 seasons at Miami Heat from 2008 to 2016.
After many successful careers as an assistant coach, he finally got an opportunity to lead his team as the Head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies on 29th May 2016. Likewise, on 7th May 2018, he signed a four-year contract with New York Knicks as a Head Coach.
