Damon Lamon Stoudamire is a former player and current assistant coach for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Damon Stoudamire played professionally for the Toronto Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers, Memphis Grizzlies, and San Antonio Spurs after playing collegiately for the University of Arizona.

Early Life and Childhood

Damon Stoudamire was born on September 3, 1973, in Portland, Oregon, to Willie Stoudamire and Liz Washington. As of now, he is 49 years old. He was an only child with three stepsisters, and his parents never married.

Similarly, When Damon was seven years old, his father, Willie Stoudamire, relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to work in a brewery. Stoudamire was raised by his grandma Wanda Stoudamire-Matthews and his mother Liz.

Stoudamire’s uncles, Charles and Anthony Stoudamire encouraged him to participate in sports as a kid, primarily basketball and football. They acted as fathers and personal trainers to Stoudamire when he was younger, as he watched his favorite player, Nate Archibald, play and tried to model his game after him.

Wanda, his grandma, died of cancer during his junior year of high school. Currently, He is 48 years old. His nationality is American and his Ethnicity is African.

Stoudamire was a point guard for the famous Lute Olson’s Arizona Wildcats.  In his junior year, he led the team to the Final Four with Khalid Reeves. He also concluded his college career as the only player in Arizona history to have two 40-point games, ranking first in three-pointers made (272), second in points (1,849), and fourth in assists (663).

On January 14, 1995, Stoudamire set a career-high with 45 points against Stanford University. He was named a nominee for the 1995 Wooden Award. Despite being the youngest player on the US men’s national basketball team’s roster, Stoudamire led the squad in assists and steals on his way to a gold medal at the 1993 Summer Universiade.

NBA 

During his rookie season, he broke Dennis Scott’s record for most three-point field goals made by a rookie. Due to tendinitis in his left knee, he missed the final ten games of the season. Stoudamire’s contract with the Blazers expired at the end of the 2004–05 season. He signed a four-year agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies on August 5, 2005.

During the 2007–08 season, he said on NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad that he was working hard with Mike Conley, Jr., a 2007 draft pick of the Grizzlies. In 2008, he briefly started for the San Antonio Spurs while Tony Parker was out.

Coaching Career

Stoudamire accepted a role as director of player development for the guard-heavy Rice University Owls under head coach Ben Braun in December 2008. He joined the University of Memphis Tigers men’s basketball coaching staff in May 2011, and his coaching and recruiting contributions were lauded during the 2011-2012 season.

He departed Arizona in May 2015 to rejoin the Memphis Tigers men’s basketball coaching staff. He departed Memphis in March 2016 to become the head coach of the Pacific Tigers men’s basketball team.

Several marijuana-related incidents ruined his time with the Portland Trail Blazers. The following are the major incidents:

During the 2002-2003 season, he and Rasheed Wallace were pulled over on I-5 after Damon’s yellow Hummer was found to be speeding and he was discovered to be driving under the influence of marijuana. Following his third arrest for marijuana possession in July 2003, he was fined $250,000 and suspended for three months by the Portland Trail Blazers.
