Beverly D’Angelo is an American actress and former singer who is popular as  ‘Patsy Cline’ of ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’. Beverly D’Angelo has nailed every character in TV series and movies like ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation, ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’, and ‘And insatiable’ to name a few. Before landing an acting career, she joined ‘The Hawks’ band which is now known as,’ The Band’.

Early Life

Beverly D’Angelo was born on November 15, 1951, as Beverly Heather D’Angelo. She has turned 70 years as of now. Likewise, she is originally from the United States of America and her birthplace is Upper Arlington, Ohio. She was born to Eugene Constantino and Priscilla Ruth. Furthermore, her mother was a famous violinist and her father was a bass player and managed a TV station. She was a granddaughter of an architect, Howard Dwight Smith, who designed the Ohio (“Horseshoe”) Stadium at Ohio State University. 

She belongs to Mixed ethnicity and her nationality is American. D’Angelo was born with the astronomical sign of Scorpio. She was a single girl child of her parents. D’Angelo grew up with her three brothers, Jeff, Tim, and Tony. Talking more about her childhood, it is quite obvious to incline toward music as she has musical genes inherited from her mother.

She was passionate about rock and jazz music among the other genres. But, in her teens, she shifted her focus from music to acting. Similarly, she was an ambitious artist since her teenage years and her inclination towards animation shows was seen. Particularly, she was fond of the animation made by Hannah Barbara studios.


Regarding her educational background, her most of her schooling was completed in Italy. Later, she left for the USA, and she wishes to pursue a career in animating and music got an end in midway. Music career

During the initial stage of her career, she worked as an animator/cartoonist at Hanna-Barbera Productions before moving to Canada to pursue a rock singing career. To keep the wolf from the door, D’Angelo also worked as a session vocalist and left no place to sing be its coffeehouses and bars. Furthermore, she was invited to join up with rockabilly legend, Ronnie Hawkins. Soon, she joined the band, ‘The Hawks’ which is now popular as ‘The Band’.

Her acting career started when she toured Canada as Ophelia in “Kronborg: 1582”, a rock musical version of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”. Fortunately, D’Angelo’s performance could not go out of Colleen Dewhurst’s sight. Gradually,  Gower Champion got into the mix and the show was completely revamped, becoming the rock musical “Rockabye Hamlet”, which made its way to Broadway in 1976.

Acting career

After this show, D’Angelo never stepped on the stage but did star alongside Ed Harris in the 1995 off-Broadway production of Sam Shepherd’s “Simpatico”. In 1976, she appeared in the first three episodes of a television miniseries titled ‘Captains and the Kings’. This series was lauded by the audience which brought confidence in her. Not only confidence but this miniseries also got her introduced to Woody Allen, who presented her with a small yet key role in 1977’s ‘Annie Hall’. D’Angelo appeared as ‘Actress’ in ‘Rob’s T.V. Show’ while Woody Allen was in the lead role. The same year, she also did play the role of Shelley in First Love and ‘Sandra’ in ‘The Sentinel’.

Her acting career took off and even Hollywood could not help from admire her. In 1987, she appeared in ‘Every Which Way but Loose’ and ‘Hair’. However, her breakthrough was the role of ‘Patsy Cline’ in ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’. It was a biopic and based on true events, and Angelo was praised worldwide for her brave portrayal of the meaty role. Likewise, she had also sung in this film for her character which eventually nominated her for a Golden Globe Award for ‘Best Actress in a supporting role category.

Similarly, there was no looking back for her, she ruled Hollywood by the portrayal of some roles from prostitutes to rich brats, widows to troubled mothers in her films. Her presence in various roles in movies like  ‘Paternity’, ‘Finders Keepers’, ‘The Pope Must Diet’, and ‘The Crazysitter’.Her movie ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ brought her a few main roles in films like ‘Slow Burn’ and ‘Sweet Temptation’.

‘Ellen Griswold’ is the name that gave her immense popularity in America in 1983. She portrayed the role of ‘Ellen Griswold’ in the 4 sequels of ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation. She is the winner of the ‘Theatre World Award’ after her return to the theatre circuit in 1994. Angelo’s pace was down a bit with movies and her only key roles were Barbara Miller in the HBO series ‘Entourage’, a role in ‘Gamers: The movie’ and ‘Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. She portrayed roles in ‘The House Bunny’ and ‘Black Water Transit.

She came back to the entertainment industry and played some major roles like ‘Moira’ in ‘Frat Pack’, ‘Edie’ in ‘The Unicorn’, and ‘Millie Barnworth’ in ‘.The Michaels’. In 2015, she did the role of ‘Ellen Griswold’ in ‘Vacation’. Similarly, TV series where D’Angelo made her presence are ‘The Filth’, ‘Shooter’, and ‘Party Girl’ to name a few. From 2018-2019, she was seen in a TV series, ‘Insatiable’ alongside Christopher Gorham, and Debby Ryan to name a few. She is still active in the entertainment industry. Her upcoming on-screen projects are ‘The Good House’, ‘Masha’s Mushroom’, and ‘Capps Crossing: Wrong Side of Dead’.

Voiceover work

Besides acting, she has lent her voice to characters in two episodes of The Simpsons’. In the third season of the show in 1992, she first appeared as a folk-country singer and again made her appearance in the 19th season of the show. D’Angelo also gave her voice to the character Sheila Altoonian / Mom in the TV series,’ Scooby-Doo!! Mystery Incorporated. Likewise, in ‘Battle for Terra’ she was the voice of Interrogator Wright. Talking more about her voice work, Audrey in the TV series, Fraiser was her voice of her. Other voice-over work of hers includes some movies like Partigiano.

On Golden Globes Award, she was a nominee for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Coal Miner’s Daughter. Furthermore, she could not bag Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or a Special for playing the role of ‘Stela DuBois’ in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire. Her audience ranges from kids to adults. She was nominated for ‘The kid’s Choice Awards under the category of Favorite Movie Actress for Vegas Vacation. Other awards categories for which her name was on nominees are ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, Drama’ for ‘American History’, and ‘Most Annoying Fake Accent: Female’ for ‘Honky Tonk Freeway.

Unfortunately, their relationship could not endure, and divorced on 5 November 1995 ending their relationship on mutual understanding.

After getting a divorce from Lorenzo, she dated an Academy award-winner, Anton Furst. Anton was a production designer, but the relationship came to an end when Anton committed suicide in 1991. Likewise, she didn’t exchange vows with Al Pacino, but the duo was blessed with twins, Olivia Pacino and Anton James Pacino.
