Andy Ruiz began his career as a boxer under Fernando Ferrer Trainer. Freddie Roach was with Andy at the Wild Card Gym. Also, the former UFC heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlovski was also with Ruiz. The boxer mostly had games with journeymen resistance previously in his career but was knocked out 2 amateur stars in US amateur champion Jonte Willis in the year 2006 and Golden Gloves champion Tor Hamer in the year 2008.
